David Haye, a former two-division world champion, is returning to the ring after a three-year hiatus to face Joe Fournier in an eight-round bout at heavyweight on September 11, on the undercard of Oscar De La Hoya against Vitor Belfort on Triller at the Staples Center Los Angeles, Calfornia.
Haye's inclusion on the card will draw nostalgic boxing fans who will be looking to buy PPVs of the Hayemaker after three years.
Haye has a history of injuries and it may take a miracle to get through training camp without injuring a shoulder, bicep or hand.
Haye had bad luck in camp injuries during part of his 16-year professional career. Haye's injuries prevented him from fighting Tyson Fury in two possible fights. This would have made Haye a little more rich if he had made it to the ring.
Haye Last's Final Victory in 2016
Haye, 40, hasn't won any fights since 2016. His career ended in a sad way when he was stopped by Tony Bellew (british cruiserweight) in May 2018.
Although it may seem odd to boxing fans to see Haye dusting off his cobwebs in order to make a few bucks, the card doesn't aim to put on events between world-level fighters.
It's not about bringing in older fighters from MMA or boxing, but rather matching them.
Other fights on the De La Hoya-vs. Belfort card
Anderson Silva vs. Tito Ortiz
Andy Venes vs. Jono Carrol
Haye's notable wins were against Nicolai Vale, Derek Chisora and John Ruiz. Jean Marc Mormeck and Enzo Maccarinelli were also among his victories.
Haye's move to heavyweight was his end. Haye's win over WBA champion Value was controversial. Although it seemed Haye had lost, he was awarded the win.
Haye was defeated by Wladimir Klitschko, heavyweight champion in a 12 round decision in 2011 in a highly publicized bout.
Co-feature fight on the De La Hoya vs Belfort Live Online card features a heavyweight bout between Tito Ortiz and Anderson Silva, 46 years old. It is a boxing match. Silva and Ortiz are both former champions of the UFC, but they have been injured and are no longer able to fight the best in the octagon.
Triller may be trying to market the De la Hoya vs. Befort card to MMA fans by adding Silva and Ortiz, since they will enjoy seeing these fighters.
These fights are meaningless for boxing fans. It's just fluff entertainment in the same vein as the YouTuber matches between Logan and Jake Paul. This is cheap entertainment that involves old-timers without a boxing background. It's the equivalent to junk food for your eyes.
Triller reports that Anderson Silva and Tito Ortiz have signed their contracts for a eight-round bout in a cruiserweight boxing match. This will be the chief-support to Oscar De La Hoya against Vitor Belfort. MMA Fighting reported that a bout was being planned.
